Nothing Personal
09/29/2008
As a three-term U.S. Senator, I frequently disagree with my colleagues about how to address the major issues facing our nation -- without making it personal. That is the way it is for my colleague Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe and me: We get along on a personal level, but you can imagine how difficult it is for me to work with someone who has called global warming the "the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people."
Senator Inhofe has blocked every piece of legislation I have fought for to reduce the dangerous greenhouse gases that threaten our planet. And of course, the longer we wait to do something, the harder it will be to prevent the ravages that come from global warming -- ravages that have been laid out by the world's leading scientists.
So today, I'm asking you to support Andrew Rice, who is campaigning hard each day to replace Jim Inhofe in the Senate and bring strong leadership to Oklahoma this November.
Contribute today -- and help Andrew Rice win his Senate race this November!
Andrew Rice is a tremendous candidate -- he is a current Oklahoma state senator who has worked tirelessly to help relieve vulnerable Oklahoma children of hunger, expand access to health care, and promote the use of renewable energy sources. He has also advocated for tax cuts for families that absorb the cost of caring for aging parents and the creation of a state "Veterans Health Insurance Program" to help cover the estimated 20,000 military veterans in Oklahoma who do not have health insurance.
In a traditionally red state, Andrew has worked effectively with Republicans and Democrats in both the Oklahoma House and the evenly divided Oklahoma Senate. In the 2008 session, Rice helped form compromises and passed bills with House Republican representatives to improve the lives of Oklahomans across the state.
This is exactly the kind of leadership Oklahoma and the U.S. Senate needs. Let's show Andrew that he has our support.
Contribute today -- and send Democrat Andrew Rice to the U.S. Senate this November!
In another crucial race, Alaska Republican Senator Ted Stevens is now fighting a Justice Department indictment. Stevens has voted in lockstep with President Bush, including support for the failed policies that have left our economy in a vulnerable and chaotic state, and Alaskans deserve better.
Democrat Mark Begich has shown that he can provide the leadership that Alaska needs. Mark is in his fifth year as mayor of Anchorage, Alaska's largest city, which is enjoying its 20th consecutive year of economic growth. He understands that we must safely and responsibly redeploy our troops out of Iraq, invest in renewable energy, and create green jobs.
Mark is currently leading by a narrow margin, but he is being outraised by more than $3 million. We need to do everything we can to give Mark Begich the resources he needs to keep up his lead and get his message out to voters in Alaska this November.
Contribute today -- and help Democrat Mark Begich beat Senator Ted Stevens in Alaska this November!
These Republican senators have rubber-stamped a radical Bush-Cheney agenda that has embroiled us in a disastrous war in Iraq and a disastrous economy at home.
With your help, we can put America back on track by sending real progressives like Andrew Rice and Mark Begich to the U.S. Senate.
Thank you for your support.
In Friendship,
Barbara Boxer
U.S. Senator
P.S. We're so close to reaching that 60-seat filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. Please contribute to Andrew Rice and Mark Begich right now, and help them win in Oklahoma and Alaska this November!
